Amazing Race

With all these hype about The View’s heated argument about the ‘N word’, I honestly admit I have used that word several times and I’m sure most of the people in my country has.  I remember one time when we were driving around town, I saw a black guy and said to my husband the N word.  He corrected me and informed me that it is a racial slur.  I told him that we often used that word (in our native language of course) back home to refer to people from the black race.  It is used not to offend but that’s just how we refer to that race.  I thought about it the whole night afterwards and realize that perhaps it is because it is just a small country.  I mean, we don’t have a great mix of races unlike the US for example.  We don’t have to worry about saying words that might offend other races since we (mostly) belong in the same race.

So I guess since I have moved to a place where there is a melting pot of races,  I have to be more vigilant on what I say so as not to offend any races.  It is a way of peacefully coexisting.
