Caught in the Act

To amuse ourselves, the Husband and I set a trap at the back of the house. Just in case you are wondering how “wild” our backyard is, different kinds of birds lurk there like blue jays, cardinals and even hawks.  Yes, we live near the woods but we are no Robinhoods. In fact, I’m quite scared going to the woods alone because of snakes and spiders. We set the trap to see what other animals live there and then observe them (much like a science project) and then let them go.

Our first catch is a possum. The Husband kept on saying “not again” because the last time we set the trap we caught a possum too and it might be the same one as well.  It is quite ugly and for me it looks like a big rat.  Although, possums don’t attack unless provoked.  It just kept on growling the whole time but never threatened to attack. .We left him loose soon after.  We are hoping to catch a raccoon though since I have never seen one up close.  I only saw a raccoon once when it crossed the street but that’s it.  The next day, we set the trap again and hoping that it would not be another possum.  Well, well, well, guess what we caught this time…Its a raccoon!

We were so thrilled to see a raccoon on the trap.  Hurray for us!  The moment I saw the raccoon I remembered all the raccoon cartoon characters that I have seen on TV like RJ from Over the Hedge.  Hehe.  I named him “Rocco the Raccoon” even though I don’t even know if its a male or female.  He looks so cute and adorable.  Errr, those descriptions lasted for a minute only as the raccoon immediately launch to attack.  Gotta understand that he is a wild animal and is scared too.  I immediately took pictures of Rocco since we have to let him go soon. It was sure is enjoyable seeing him. :)
