Losing Weight

Yes, I have been losing weight.  It’s a miracle.  I can’t believe it myself.  I keep on losing a pound each day with no exercise.  I’m not following any diet fad just a simple old Okinawan practice called Hara Hachi Bu.  It means eating until you are 80% full.  Apparently, it takes about 10 minutes or so for the stomach to produce hormones that will inform the beautiful brain that your full.

This practice was hard for me in the beginning.  Eating slowly helps.  I realized now how much I overeat each meal.  I eat too fast and too much that I feel tired right after eating.  One other thing that I have been doing differently is to drink water first when I feel hungry.  The husband told me that thirst is often mistaken for hunger.

I’m sure I will lose a lot more and build muscles if I add exercise like using an elliptical or a treadmill.  I will start on that this week and we’ll see how it goes. :)

Weekend Wrap Up

Last saturday was our first year wedding anniversary.  I have no pictures to share because we did not really celebrate it.  I was PMSing since Friday and I just laid on the bed most of the time.  We had a stormy weekend anyway so we just stayed inside the house except that time when we had to go to the store to get food.  I feel bad that I have not prepared anything for the Husband, not even any home made cards that I always make.  He said he has something for “us” but it will have to be for next week.  I quit bugging him about it because I always ruin surprises with my questions.  :) Somehow though, I have a feeling what it will be but I will rather not think about it.  I want to be surprised.  Hehe.

Saving Receipts

Like most of you, I have never been the type that saves receipts. I just recently gotten the habit with the husband’s help.  Why do we have to save receipts anyway?  Let me share you some good reasons why.

Budgeting Reasons
It helps keep track of the expenses I made. Little purchases like a small bar of chocolate or a bottle of soda are some of the few that I don’t really pay attention.  These small purchases though when added up can explain why I have a “missing” $50 on my wallet.

Warranty Purposes
Receipts can serve as warranties for costly appliances or my engagement ring that I always worry the diamond might fall off.

Returning or Exchanging Damaged Goods
Receipts can be used for returning damaged products or exchanging them.  One summer, the husband decided to purchase a bike.  In just a month of using it, the bike is already broken.  He had to return it and since they don’t have any other bikes to replace it, they gave his money back.

Work Reimbursements
I often wonder why my brother kept his receipts for almost everything like gas and food receipts.  Apparently, his organization allows certain employees to reimburse their basic expenses.  Nice, wish I can be one of those lucky ones.  Hehe.

These are just some of the reasons why it is important to keep those receipts.  After learning all of these, I always save my receipts.  The receipt printer is my best friend as long as I don’t overspend.  Hehe.
