The New Budget

Post contributed by Hilton Miranda

Man, it’s tough budgeting…don’t you guys agree? There’s nothing like having a spreadsheet that you have to update every night before bed to keep your spending in check! After I did all the typical things like switching to generic brand food and looking for a better energy rate at http://TEXASelectricityproviders.com I decided to do something totally drastic. Outside of utilities and rent, I was going to pay for everything I bought in cash for six whole months! Let me tell you guys, there’s something about handing someone a $5 bill that makes you think twice about buying that latte every morning, that’s for sure! I can’t believe how much money I’ve saved already and how much easier it is to keep my budget. When the cash is gone, I’m done spending money for the week…it’s that simple! I can’t believe it took me this long to figure out that plastic is the enemy. Who knew that my credit cards were actually what was keeping me from getting organized in the long run? Not me!

Another Hobby – Crocheting

crochet

I seem to be accumulating a lot of hobbies this year. We were in the middle of sewing (yet another hobby) when I mentioned in passing about crochet. My aunt next-door has been teaching me how to sew for weeks now. I’m on my third skirt already. She is a gifted crafter. She is quite good in sewing and crocheting. I remember she gifted us with a big crocheted blanket on our wedding. We often use it during winter time as it keeps us warm. The design was intricate too and not to mention, bursting with colors. So when I mentioned about crocheting, she pulled out her supplies and started handing them to me. She has stopped crocheting for a year now due to the pain in her shoulders. She gave me some of her old supplies together with tutorials on crocheting. I have been playing with the yarn these past few days. I often lose count because I somehow always miss the loops where they are supposed to go! Also, watching a television show breaks my concentration so I suggest listening to your ipod touch 32g instead. I need to practice more before I can make a decent creation. Hopefully, that time will come soon.

Harvest Time

After months of waiting, finally this moment arrived. I was able to harvest several tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden. I ate the first tomato I picked, fresh from the vine. It was a good feeling! I used the rest of the tomatoes for the spaghetti sauce that the husband has been raving about.

As you can see, I didn’t harvest a lot but I also have a small garden. I’m thrilled to even get to this point. This is also the first time this land has been used for gardening. It needs to be worked on more. I’m already thinking of putting sacks of miracle grow soil and peat moss to make the soil richer. That will have to be done early next year though. It is safe to say that gardening this year was a success for me. Next in line, losing weight. I want to be able to shimmy thru my honeymoon lingerie again without the need to hold my breath that is.

It was a Dark and Stormy Night

and I slept it all off. Normally, I would be in panic mode, thinking about what if a tornado comes. I was just too tired to care despite the weather radio going off and on about the terrible storm. I actually slept good all through the night. If the coming summer storms will be like that, I wouldn’t mind. I just have to stay indoors to dodge the lightning. It doesn’t matter that I missed the lunar eclipse. It was too cloudy to see it anyway. I spent time reading on a book before I fell asleep. It was one boring night, unworthy of a blog post (hehe) but I had a good quality sleep.

Happy List

My happy list this past week:

  • Getting extra work hours
  • Able to attend church service again
  • Hanging out and having a relaxing brekkie with the husband
  • Accomplishing a lot of things in my to-do list
  • Watching a funny and cute yet an I-can-relate-to Korean drama
  • Having a cup of cold vanilla frosty from Wendy’s on a hot summer day!

By the way, that dalmatian was our dog Beauty.  She smiles the first time she sees you for the day.  I miss her. ♥
